Are you perfect?
While it’s great to have confidence in your abilities, we all have faults. When businesses choose to only promote their strengths, they leave their audience searching for some form of weakness. But when they willingly advertise their shortcomings, they leave very little to the buyer’s imagination.
Imagine what would happen if you exposed in print what everyone was thinking?
“We charge more than our competition, but you get what you pay for!”
“Our location stinks, but it’s worth the adventure!”
or like Avis presented to their prospect
“We’re #2 in-car rentals…so we try harder”
Take the words right out of their mouths! No single person is going to give you unsolicited praise, so by muting the naysayers, you force them to acknowledge your strengths. Listen to what people are saying about your business. Ask your current customers what you could do better, and follow that up by taking immediate action.
You are initially going to move toward fixing the issue, but I want you to step back and evaluate your situation before you pack up and move to a new location. Ask yourself if your actions will yield a guaranteed positive result, or will simply cost you money that you don’t have. Just maybe your perceived problem is not a problem at all. It could very well become a situation in wish you can garner a new set of eyes, or appeal to a different demographic.
All too often, we find ourselves striving for perfection, but at the end of the day, no one is perfect.
Here’s an example we can all relate to.
Have you ever woken up with one of those monster pimples? You know the kind that seem to be screaming “Look at me!” You walk into the office and race for your desk in hopes that nobody notices. As you angrily greet your co-workers with a half-hearted “good morning,” you’re wishing you could just crawl into a hole somewhere and hide. The first person you engage with is noticeably struggling to control their eyes from drifting towards your second head.
Finally, you decide to acknowledge your blemish.
“This zit is killing me!” you exclaim.
Your co-worker smiles, and admits that they were trying not to stare. After a quick chuckle, she shares with you a home remedy for quickly vanquishing the tiny demon back to where it came from. As you continue your conversation, you find yourself becoming more relaxed, and can finally get back to being yourself. Your mind is clear, and you feel more confident.

By acknowledging your faults, you lightened the load on your sub-conscience, and once again, became productive.
If you are dwelling on your misfortunes, you will distance yourself from success. Your thoughts drive you toward failure. A person will eventually become what it is they think about most often.
Expose yourself to the world. Nothing bad will be said behind your back if you say it first.
Success is not measured by what a man accomplishes but by the opposition he has encountered and the courage with which he has maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds.” ~Orison Swett Marden

Oh yea! And I’m a terrible business man! Sounds dumb, but when it comes to doing actuall business, like getting paid for my service, I SUCK! That’s my biggest fault. Good for those that listen to me, but bad for my bottom line 🙁 ~Andy
