Video is a powerful marketing tool. When done properly, video has the ability to define a brand, change people’s behavior and put your brand top of mind. To get the full benefit from your video follow these top 10 tips for video marketing:
1. Understand your target audience
It’s important that you not only know who your audience is, but that you fully understand them. Understanding your audience is required to truly inspire them to further engage and connect with you.
2. Make it interesting
It’s important to make your video interesting as nobody is going to respond or engage with a boring or poor quality video. Make it visually interesting for your audience.
3. The 20 second rule
Research shows that people will make their mind up whether to continue watching in the first 20 seconds. Therefore it’s essential that you grab attention right from the start.
4. Communicate quickly
As a rule of thumb, you should communicate your message in a video that is no longer than 3 minutes otherwise you run the risk of losing people’s attention.
5. Call to action
A common mistake is to leave out a call to action. Your video needs to clearly lead customers towards taking an action and/or making a purchase.
6. Optimize it
Google, and other search engines, put more search engine ranking value on online video. Forrester Research found that videos were 53 times more likely than traditional web pages to receive an organic first page ranking on Google. This means an optimised video can shoot your website up the search rankings.
7. Multi-platform
You should share your video on multiple platforms including online video platforms such as YouTube, on your blog, in your email campaigns etc to maximize exposure.
8. Get Social
Video is a great way to engage with your online community of fans and allows them to share it with their social network, which will increase the exposure of your video.
9. Shareable
If you upload your video to your website, give viewers the option to share it. Again this is aimed at increasing the exposure of the video and will help search rankings.
10. Metrics
An important element of any marketing activity is measurement and this is no different with video marketing. This allows you to recognize what content ‘works’ and what platforms are the most effective, so that you can focus more effort in the right places.
